A Hostage Used as Bait

A Hostage Used as Bait
Theo becomes a target
The demons direct their attacks toward separating Theo from the party, then Tyraz captures him. The strategy depends on the Hero’s attachment, turning Theo’s relationship into leverage.
Luc responds on Tyraz’s terms
Luc’s fear for Theo pushes him toward a dangerous confrontation. The Demon Lord believes that control of the healer will determine how the Hero fights.
The capture shows how personal love can be weaponized by a political enemy. Theo’s own choices, however, remain central: he resists, stays alert, and continues trusting the people who are coming for him.
The Hero’s Party Breaks In

The Hero’s Party Breaks In
An assault against overwhelming odds
Luc’s party penetrates the fortress and fights its defenders through the courtyard. The companions work together despite exhaustion and the lack of information about where Tyraz has taken Theo.
A rescue becomes a battle for survival
The party reaches the confrontation, but Tyraz’s barrier keeps them from helping Luc and Theo. Their attempts to break free cannot stop the duel from turning against the Hero.
The assault demonstrates their commitment to one another, but also the limits of coordination when an enemy controls the battlefield. The party’s skill alone cannot prevent Theo from becoming the deciding actor.
A Rescue by Malthios

A Rescue by Malthios
The battlefield is displaced
Malthios carries the party away from the fortress and returns them to the forest. The explosion behind them signals that the stronghold has been destroyed.
Theo must be allowed back
Wicker asks Malthios to give control to Theo so the healer can save Luc. Malthios warns the party not to mistake his intervention for a threat against them and recognizes Theo’s right to act.
The moment establishes that rescue is not complete until Theo can choose what happens next. Malthios’s power clears the way, but the healer must still treat the man he loves.
The Handcuffs Applied

The Handcuffs Applied
Fear takes control of the group
Once Luc is alive, Avery places Magic-Dampening Handcuffs in Theo’s lap. The revelation that he hosts Malthios overwhelms the party’s earlier experience of his care.
Trust collapses unevenly
Some companions are frightened, others hesitate, and Luc cannot immediately respond with his usual warmth. Theo apologizes and fears that the truth has destroyed the relationship he built with the group.
The cuffs make the change from companion to suspected enemy physical. The party must decide whether its memories of Theo can survive the fear attached to Malthios’s name.
The Court Chooses a Witness

The Court Chooses a Witness
Accusations become public
The court hears the party’s testimony and presents Theo as the host of the Demon King. Some witnesses describe his help; others interpret his secrecy as evidence of danger.
Judgment returned to Luc
King Alexis declares that the choice of Theo’s fate belongs to Luc as Hero. Luc asks to speak with Malthios, then chooses a future that delays execution and keeps the two souls under his watch.
The trial does not settle every political question. It does shift the immediate decision away from collective panic and toward a relationship grounded in firsthand knowledge and chosen responsibility.
