Luvel Attacks Theo
The Reincarnated Demon King's Host Just Wants to Live in Peace, But the Hero Won't Leave Him AloneLuvel Attacks Theo is an ambush in which an assassin’s attempt to exploit Theo’s connection to Luc brings Malthios out into the open. The encounter turns a quiet gathering in the woods into a test of Theo and Malthios’s shared-body bond—and ends with Luvel defeated and Luc’s pendant recovered.
The Ambush in the Woods
Theo is kneeling by a tree, using a new harvesting knife to scrape moss from its roots, when a prickling sensation warns him of danger. Malthios’s voice sounds in his mind, urging him to move. Theo shifts just in time to avoid a worse blow, but a thin blade still strikes his shoulder near the heart. His healing magic begins to rise as he searches the trees for his attacker.
At first, the woods appear empty. Then the air shimmers about ten feet away, and a tall, skeletal demon becomes visible where there had been only trees and rocks. The stranger’s ivory-white horns curl around their ears; pale feathers line their wings, and blue light glows in their black, slit-pupiled eyes. Malthios recognizes the attacker as Luvel, Tyraz’s exceptionally skilled assassin, known as the Lord of the Invisible Blades.
The Pendant as a Trail
Luvel explains that they had been gathering information for Tyraz when the Hero’s party attacked them. They escaped with a prize: the Fluorite Pendant Theo had given Luc when he left, chosen to match Theo’s eyes. In Luvel’s hand, the keepsake becomes more than a sign of affection; it is evidence linking Luc to Theo and a tool for finding him.
A tracking spell led Luvel directly to Theo. The assassin infers that Theo is Luc’s lover from the pendant, then makes that connection part of the threat: they intend to kill Theo and leave his body for Luc to find. The attack therefore targets not only Theo’s life but the bond Luvel has discovered, turning an intimate gift into a means of pursuit and intimidation.
Malthios Steps Forward
Theo’s response to Luvel’s threat is not panic but a widening smile. He lets his control slip, telling the assassin they should have let the Hero’s party kill them. Malthios then takes over: his mana floods Theo’s body, horns and wings emerge, and a black sword forms in their hand as blue flames kindle around them. The change turns the attacker’s apparent advantage into a recognition scene. Luvel, who had approached Theo as a vulnerable human tied to Luc, now bows and recognizes the Demon King they had not sensed.
That recognition does not restore the old order between them. Luvel questions whether Malthios can truly be himself while controlled by a mortal and condemns his refusal of the destiny associated with his crown. Malthios has already rejected the ambition Luvel assumes still governs him: he no longer wants to conquer Algeya. He still believes mortals need to change, but says that change should come from one of their own—and might come from Theo, who has already won the Hero’s affection. He also points to the world’s beauty and goodness, and to Theo’s home, as reasons he wants Theo to be happy rather than destroy what surrounds him.
Luvel answers this change in purpose with a challenge, declaring that they will defeat Malthios and bring his head to Tyraz. The assassin sends six invisible blades at them; Malthios deflects every one, directing them into the earth and the overhead branches. The ease of that defense exposes the gap between Luvel’s confidence and actual power. Malthios recalls that Luvel was never effective in direct combat, and his wing-driven counterattack tears through the ground and trees even as Luvel evades it.
In the final exchange, Luvel throws more unseen blades. One cuts Malthios’s cheek, but magic turns the others aside. Blue flames engulf Luvel, and Malthios ends the fight before the assassin can continue. Luvel and the attacker's body dissolve into shadows; in the grass, Malthios finds the Fluorite Pendant. The keepsake that brought Luvel to Theo is returned to him, while the encounter has made Malthios’s changed allegiance unmistakable: the former conqueror protects Theo’s life and home, and refuses the old destiny Luvel invokes.
Aftermath and Significance
When Theo takes control again, Malthios’s sword, horns, and wings vanish, leaving Theo alone in the wrecked forest with blood drying on his face, shoulder, and thigh. He closes his hand around the recovered Fluorite Pendant: the keepsake that exposed his connection to Luc and led Luvel to him has survived the encounter and is back with its giver. Theo does not blame Luc for the danger, but recognizes that the attack must be reported; amid the silence, he says he will tell Hayden and the others what happened. The scene closes not with the old Demon King’s return to conquest, but with the shared body’s protection of Theo’s home and the practical aftermath of surviving an enemy sent by Tyraz.
