Basilisk Attack and Khal’s Poisoning

The Reincarnated Demon King's Host Just Wants to Live in Peace, But the Hero Won't Leave Him Alone

The Basilisk Attack and Khal’s Poisoning is the crisis that brings Khal, already beyond the party’s ability to heal, to Theo for treatment. The attack’s immediate consequences are clear even though its details are not shown: poison resists the party’s efforts, the group must hurry to find help, and Theo’s intervention becomes essential to Khal’s recovery.

Causes and Background

Khal was bitten by a basilisk and poisoned. By the time his companions sought Theo, a day had passed and their healing efforts had failed. They had no healer in their party; as Theo recognized, he was supposed to fill that role. Their appeal rested on the townsfolk’s belief that he could work miracles.

Luc later recounts the emergency from Khal’s perspective: Khal had saved Luc from the basilisk, then been poisoned himself. Avery and Veiv could only slow the poison, so the group made for the nearest town. The account establishes both the urgency of the journey and the limits of the party’s available treatment; it does not describe the attack’s exact course or how Khal was bitten.

Treatment and Recovery

When Khal wakes, he immediately asks whether Veiv is safe. Luc reassures him that she is unharmed and explains that Theo, the town’s healer, got the poison out. Theo says that Khal’s wounds still need attention and that he had to infuse an antidote to deal with any poison that remained. The rescue therefore involves both removing the immediate danger and continuing treatment for its residual effects and physical injuries.

Khal thanks Theo as the healer and reaches out to brush his hand. He hopes to repay the help one day. The gesture closes the medical emergency with an offer of gratitude and future reciprocity, rather than treating survival as an impersonal outcome.

Consequences and Significance

The poisoning makes Theo’s healing role concrete: the party’s own efforts could slow the venom, but they could not finish the treatment, while Theo could remove the poison and address what remained. The earlier request also clarifies that the party had expected Theo to be its healer, making his absence from that role part of the crisis’s background.

Khal’s first concern on waking is Veiv’s safety, while his thanks to Theo recognizes the care that saved him. The event thus joins the practical stakes of healing to the ties among the companions, without suggesting that the danger is resolved by a single antidote: Theo still has to treat Khal’s wounds.
