An Enemy by Inheritance

An Enemy by Inheritance
A mission taught from childhood
Luc grows up knowing Malthios as the enemy his Heroic purpose is meant to destroy. Eliza’s history with the Demon King reinforces a simple division between the Hero who protects Algeya and the demon who threatens it.
No personal knowledge
Luc has not met Malthios and knows only the destruction attributed to him. The inherited mission leaves little room to ask whether a demon can change or whether Theo might be separate from the soul inside him.
This starting point makes later trust difficult rather than automatic. Luc must reconsider both the enemy he has been trained to kill and the story he tells himself about duty.
The Host Kept Hidden

The Host Kept Hidden
A romance without disclosure
Luc grows close to Theo without knowing that Malthios shares his body. Theo fears that the truth will turn affection into a reason for the Hero to kill him.
Two forms of care collide
Malthios warns Theo against the Hero but also senses Luc’s attachment. The Demon King’s protectiveness is complicated by his old fear and his inability to separate his own survival from Theo’s.
Their connection is built under unequal knowledge, creating a real ethical problem when the secret is finally revealed. Love cannot make the concealed danger disappear, but it can shape how the truth is faced.
A Test in the Court

A Test in the Court
Luc asks the Demon King directly
Luc asks Malthios why he saved him, whether he loves Theo, and whether he intends to escape. He listens for evidence of motive rather than relying only on inherited hatred.
Trust remains conditional
Malthios answers that Theo saved Luc and that he cares for Theo like family. Luc does not immediately call the Demon King harmless; he asks whether he can accept the limits of sharing Theo’s body.
The exchange is a test of character as much as a legal examination. Luc begins to distinguish a changed person from a threat by considering what Malthios chooses to do.
A Promise of Watchfulness

A Promise of Watchfulness
A sentence redefined
Luc says the Hero’s duty still requires him to kill the Demon King, but he will choose when. He proposes to live with Theo and keep Malthios under watch rather than treat immediate execution as the only possible answer.
Guard and partner together
Luc calls himself Malthios’s humble guard and Theo’s companion. The plan preserves caution while also recognizing that Theo is the person who controls the body and chooses when Malthios may act.
The decision is not simple forgiveness. It is a negotiated truce built around time, accountability, and the belief that Theo’s judgment deserves respect.
An Awkward Shared Evening

An Awkward Shared Evening
Cooperation without comfort
After Malthios and Hayden fend off attackers near Leafel, Luc confronts the Demon King for putting Theo at risk. Theo refuses to take control until the men discuss what happened.
Trust begins through conversation
Luc admits that he does not yet trust Malthios with Theo. Malthios accepts the concern and explains that Theo can take control at any time; he will try to remember that he is no longer alone.
Their understanding is incomplete but useful. Luc can recognize the difference between protecting Theo and owning his choices, while Malthios begins to treat the Hero as someone who shares responsibility for the person they both love.
