A Desk-Bound Reputation

A Desk-Bound Reputation
Leadership through preparation
The former Myfanwy gains authority through administration, financial insight, and careful planning rather than field combat. Her peers value her work but often underestimate her willingness to make decisions in person.
The reputation protects her from some dangers while limiting how others interpret her. The successor inherits both the job and the assumptions attached to it.
An Observer’s First Order

An Observer’s First Order
Command becomes personal
At first Myfanwy expects to observe the Bath manifestation, but the request for a Rook and the loss of multiple teams force her to take responsibility. She enters the house with Shantay and eventually halts the biological network.
The crisis changes her relationship to the field. She is no longer merely learning what the Checquy does; her decisions determine who may live and which risks are acceptable.
The Obliteration Authorization

The Obliteration Authorization
Responsibility transferred to the Rook
When the Reading cube threatens a city, the operation considers calling on a child whose ability could destroy the site. Myfanwy authorizes the deployment, understanding that the boy may die and that the consequences will be hers.
The cube is destroyed before he arrives, but the decision remains ethically serious. Leadership means accepting that emergency powers can make a child into a weapon even when no other option seems available.
The Court in Chaos

The Court in Chaos
Authority under fire
When Gestalt’s faction attacks, Myfanwy must command while injured, outnumbered, and uncertain whom to trust. She uses her abilities to restrain attackers and protect those under threat, but cannot prevent every death.
The scene strips leadership of ceremony. Her position is not a title in an orderly meeting; it is a responsibility measured by whom she can save and what she must risk.
The Rook’s Continuing Burden

The Rook’s Continuing Burden
Success does not end the work
Myfanwy survives Grantchester’s attack and helps expose the conspiracy, but the organization still faces a Grafter threat, a compromised training program, and difficult appointments to the Court. She chooses to keep doing the job because she believes she can do it well.
Her leadership remains provisional and self-questioning. Rather than claiming certainty, she accepts the burden while preserving the option to tell the truth or step down if security requires it.
