Grafters Attack Los Angeles International Airport

The Rook

Grafters Attack Los Angeles International Airport is the incident in which a Grafter woman entering the United States through Los Angeles International Airport was captured after killing thirteen people. Its significance lies in the renewed threat it exposed: the Checquy and Croatoan treated the arrival of another Grafter, following a separate recent appearance, as evidence of a danger to both countries, while the public airport setting made complete concealment impossible.

Detection and Background

The woman came to the attention of the Croatoan because she was from Belgium. Shantay Petoskey explained that the organization had not yet established the dog-based detection measure Myfanwy Thomas wondered about; the tracking instead arose from the woman’s nationality. This detail leaves the means of identifying her unusually specific and provisional, rather than presenting the later security response as the result of a system already in place.

The woman entered through Los Angeles International Airport and was followed by three albino Croatoan personnel. Shantay described their pursuit as discreet, but allowed that their presence might have frightened the woman. She also emphasized that the woman had erupted into violence without apparent provocation. The account does not establish what prompted the attack: the possibility that the followers unsettled her is raised, but remains uncertain.

The incident followed another Grafter appearance within a short period. Shantay said the first appearance had already been cause for concern and that a second made the situation more disturbing. The Croatoan regarded the Grafters as a credible danger to both the United States and Britain, giving the airport violence international stakes beyond the immediate emergency.

The Airport Attack and Its Cost

Croatoan personnel eventually subdued the woman, but not before she killed thirteen people. Four were civilians and nine were Pawns. Myfanwy Thomas responded with sympathy and asked whether the public knew what had happened; the deaths could not be concealed because the incident took place at an airport.

The Croatoan managed to keep only some of the more unusual aspects of the event from public view. None of its Pawns used their powers in public, and Shantay identified sharpshooters as the means used against the attacker. Myfanwy contrasted this with a Grafter encountered by the Checquy who had proved bulletproof. Shantay’s reply clarified that the Croatoan had not used bullets, though the account does not identify the weapon or method further. The exchange distinguishes the two organizations’ encounters without supplying a complete technical explanation of how the woman was stopped.

Response and Unresolved Interrogation

The Croatoan’s response moved quickly from the airport to cooperation with the Checquy. Shantay said that, as soon as her organization was informed, she and Bishop Morales arranged to travel to Britain. She also said the Checquy’s Chevaliers would be officially informed within the hour, and that the Croatoan representatives had come in person for the conference they expected to follow. Their visit connected an American incident to a joint discussion of the Grafter danger.

The captured woman remained alive, but the Croatoan had been unable to interrogate her. She was secured at the organization’s facility in Nevada and had put herself into what Shantay described as a coma state; no one there had managed to rouse her. Her survival therefore preserved the possibility of learning more about the renewed Grafter presence, while her unresponsive condition left the immediate reason for her attack and the information she might hold unresolved.

Myfanwy offered to explore an arrangement involving Dr. Crisp, the Checquy’s chief information extractor, noting that he had helped wake Peter Van Syoc and might obtain more information from a living subject. Shantay answered that the Croatoan had a woman skilled with the dead, then questioned whether Dr. Crisp was an appropriate choice because he had killed the previous person he interrogated. The discussion ends not with an interrogation or a resolution, but with the practical and ethical uncertainty of how to question a Grafter who cannot be awakened.
