Rookery Apex Building Showdown
The RookThe Rookery Apex Building Showdown brings Myfanwy Thomas’s search for a traitor inside the Checquy Court into open conflict with Bishop Grantchester. She identifies him as the infiltrator and confronts him at the Apex, where his ambush turns a private accusation into a fight for survival. Myfanwy defeats the immediate attackers, but Grantchester escapes and reveals that he has spent years preparing the Checquy for a Grafter invasion.
The Infiltrator Identified
After examining personnel records, Myfanwy emerges from Ingrid Woodhouse’s office furious and orders her to convene the Court immediately. She insists that the meeting be kept secret: unlike ordinary Court gatherings, this one must not be known to the staff, and there must not even be a call log. Chevalier Eckhart is not to be pulled away from his ongoing assault; Myfanwy wants the other Court members assembled without compromising that operation.
Myfanwy reminds Ingrid of their earlier discussion in Scotland about an infiltrator in the Court, then tells her she has worked out who it is. She whispers the name rather than saying it openly in front of the others. The revelation is Bishop Grantchester. On the way to the meeting, Myfanwy runs through her accusations and recognizes the stakes: the person she has identified is a traitor to both the Checquy and the country.
The Empty Boardroom
When Myfanwy enters the boardroom, it is empty except for Grantchester, the person she came to accuse. The conspicuous absence of witnesses—and of anyone she can trust—signals that the meeting has gone badly wrong. She responds without hesitation, ordering her bodyguards to shoot him. They fire, but Grantchester remains unharmed; meanwhile, both bodyguards have been shot from behind by the guards who were stationed at the door.
Myfanwy uses her power to turn the two gunmen against one another, forcing them to point their weapons away from her and shoot each other. This quick response does not make the room safe. Grantchester is already preparing an attack of his own, and Myfanwy must divide her attention between restraining him and protecting herself from the people he has brought with him.
Grantchester’s Forces
Myfanwy reaches into Grantchester’s body with her power and finds an elaborate system of chemical and physical defenses. She can interfere with the mechanisms he is trying to use, but controlling them demands her concentration; she cannot also fully prevent him from moving. The exchange makes clear that Grantchester is not simply a Court traitor with authority, but a dangerous opponent equipped with a complex attack system.
Two armed young people arrive to support him: a boy and a girl, both graduates of Camp Caius. Myfanwy understands that releasing Grantchester to fight them would allow him to use his abilities, and she suspects he would be willing to turn those abilities against his own troops. Grantchester orders the pair to take her. Before Myfanwy can redirect her power toward the boy, the girl moves in and knocks her down, leaving her struggling to remain conscious.
Myfanwy’s Counterattack
Later, Norman—the scaly youth who attacked her—holds Myfanwy while the Gestalt siblings taunt her. Myfanwy believes her memories are about to be destroyed, but she finds an object in the pocket of her coat: an epinephrine auto-injector that the previous Myfanwy had placed in every coat because of her severe bee-sting allergy. She uses it against Norman.
The medication disrupts the engineered systems in Norman’s body and weakens his hold. Myfanwy then uses her power to keep his heart beating and his body upright while she turns to the other immediate threats. At her direction, the girl’s gun fires at the Gestalt siblings: Alex is struck in the shoulder, while Eliza is hit and falls through a glass panel. Gestalt’s remaining free body shoots the girl, then collapses; Myfanwy prevents him from getting back up. Only after dealing with the others does she stop Norman’s heart, ending his attack.
The Escape and the Larger Threat
Grantchester speaks to Myfanwy over the phone, having watched the confrontation on camera. He acknowledges that she has beaten him in this particular battle and says he is withdrawing from the Apex, explaining that he made plans for that possibility long ago. His retreat prevents Myfanwy from taking him into custody and turns her immediate success into an incomplete victory.
Before ending the call, Grantchester reveals the deeper purpose of his infiltration: he has spent years inside the Checquy preparing the way for the Grafters. He predicts that they will come and triumph, and promises that he and Myfanwy will meet again. His warning confirms that the Court crisis is part of a wider conspiracy rather than an isolated act of betrayal. After the call, Myfanwy plans to alert security, have the surviving Gestalt bodies arrested, learn the outcome of Eckhart’s assault, summon the Court, check on Bronwyn, and call Shantay. She also knows she will have to mourn Ingrid and Li’l Pawn Alan, but first needs a moment to gather thoughts she nearly lost. The showdown ends with Grantchester at large, the infiltrator exposed, and the Grafter threat still ahead.
