Elise

The Secret Vampire

Elise is Callum’s sister and a daughter of Vlad and Carmilla, placing her within the Vampire royal family at the center of Cape Town’s supernatural conflict. Her significance emerges most clearly when the household’s apparent security collapses: while older characters are deceived by Samara’s performance, Elise recognizes the threat, acts against it, and becomes one of the witnesses whose information allows the truth to overcome manipulation.

Identity and Introduction

Elise is first presented as Carmilla’s daughter and Callum’s sister. When Callum is trying to understand whether Vampires can compel humans, Carmilla asks Elise to give her and Callum a few minutes while Elise goes to obtain blood. The moment is domestic but distinctly royal and vampiric: Elise is being trained, participates in the family’s blood-based routine, and moves through a castle household in which supernatural identity is ordinary rather than hidden from its members.

Her family position is also shaped by loss. She is born into the royal line after Callum is brought into Vlad and Carmilla’s family, and she later experiences Carmilla’s death as a child’s direct bereavement. When Vlad prepares Carmilla’s funeral, Elise cries that she wants to see her mother. Callum takes her to her room and embraces her, telling her that they must be brave for their mother. This scene establishes the tenderness of the sibling bond while showing that Elise’s political world is inseparable from grief, succession, and danger.

Vigilance Against Samara

Elise’s most important contribution begins when Samara’s relationship with Vlad appears to be moving toward marriage. Elise watches Samara and remembers having seen her behave strangely in a room. She then notices a bottle containing blue liquid and decides that Callum must be informed. Her observation is significant because Samara is using deception, magic, and romantic performance to control Vlad; Elise refuses to accept the surface appearance of the household and searches for a material clue that can expose the scheme.

Elise attempts to contact Callum through a mind-link and warns him that Samara is acting strangely and plans to marry their father. Her warning reaches Callum while he and Damien are approaching the hut where Celeste is being held. The interrupted exchange nevertheless changes the direction of the rescue: Callum understands that the danger is not limited to Celeste’s captivity and that the castle itself may be under attack from within.

Elise then turns observation into direct resistance. She films Samara while Samara prepares a poisoned drink, raising the goblet and declaring that Callum will die after drinking it. Samara notices Elise’s reflection in a mirror, confronts her, and drags her to the dungeons after taking and smashing the phone. Elise protests that Samara will not marry her father or hurt her brother, even showing her fangs in defiance. Samara threatens to spare her life only if she stays out of the way, but Elise’s act has already preserved a record of the conspiracy and forced Samara to reveal how seriously she regards the child as a threat.

Imprisonment and Rescue

Elise’s imprisonment transforms the castle from a royal home into a site of coercion. She is locked in a dungeon room, frightened and crying, while Samara proceeds with the wedding preparations above her. The vertical arrangement makes the betrayal visible in spatial terms: Samara performs the role of bride upstairs while Elise, the legitimate family member, is hidden below and denied a voice.

Darren eventually discovers the locked room while helping Callum investigate the dungeon. He finds Elise crying and asking whether he has come to hurt her. Darren establishes contact with Callum, who rushes downstairs; Elise immediately embraces her brother and pleads for him to save her. After hearing that Samara confined her, Callum’s eyes change red with anger and he vows to destroy Samara. Elise’s testimony therefore supplies both the emotional proof of Samara’s cruelty and the concrete information that turns Callum’s suspicion into open resolve.

Her captivity also parallels Celeste’s imprisonment. Both are young women confined by a powerful older woman, yet neither remains only a passive victim. Celeste struggles to escape and later exposes Samara, while Elise observes, records, warns, and endures long enough for Callum and Darren to find her. The parallel gives Elise a smaller but structurally important form of agency within the wider pattern of gothic confinement.

Family Loyalty and the Fall of Samara

After the rescue, Elise helps Callum and Darren disrupt Samara’s attempted wedding. Callum tells her to change and go to the backyard while he and Darren prepare a distraction, using honey and feathers to ruin Samara’s dress. The prank is comic, but its purpose is serious: it delays Samara and creates the opening for Celeste to confront the spell controlling Vlad.

When Celeste breaks Vlad’s enchantment, Vlad remembers his loyalty to Carmilla and rejects Samara’s claim that it is their wedding day. Celeste then uses her supernatural power to reveal the past, forcing Samara to confess that she killed Carmilla and Celeste’s mother for power and that she manipulated Damien by pretending to be Hannah. Elise is present as the family’s wronged child when the hidden crimes become public. Vlad subsequently takes Samara to the dungeon and declares that the place will be her home for eternity, explicitly reversing the arrangement in which Samara had imprisoned Elise there.

Elise’s role in this reversal is not based on physical strength alone. Her action begins with perception, continues through an attempted warning and recorded evidence, and culminates in testimony after her rescue. Against Samara’s spells and disguises, Elise’s method is to notice what does not fit, preserve what she sees, and trust her family enough to speak.

Later Life and Narrative Role

Elise survives the crisis and remains part of the family’s restored future. Three years later, Callum has succeeded Vlad as Vampire King, while Elise is living within the continuing royal household. She joins Vlad in preserving the family’s happiness when she says that they need to capture the memory and takes a group selfie as Gracie and Silas run toward their parents. The gesture contrasts sharply with her earlier confinement: the same castle world that once concealed a prisoner now becomes a place where relatives gather openly and record their shared life.

Elise’s arc is therefore a movement from royal child to active guardian of family truth. She is initially associated with training, blood, and inherited status, but her decisive qualities are attentiveness and loyalty. She does not defeat Samara alone, yet the conspiracy cannot be fully defeated without her warning, her attempted recording, and the discovery of her imprisonment. In a narrative built around hidden identities, false appearances, and supernatural control, Elise represents the child who sees through the performance and helps return the family’s history to the people who were harmed by it.
