Sexyman

The Secret Vampire

Sexyman is the teasing, sexually charged nickname Susie repeatedly uses for Callum. Its significance changes with their relationship: first a joke delivered in public, it becomes an affectionate habit, then a sign of attraction and shared intimacy, and finally a pointed instrument in a conflict over Callum’s feelings for Celeste. The name tracks Susie’s changing claims on him more clearly than Callum’s, who repeatedly distinguishes their connection from the love he feels for Celeste.

Form and First Use

The nickname enters the story at a club, where Susie approaches Callum after he has intervened to stop a drunk man from grabbing Celeste. She asks whether the “sexyman” wants to dance; the encounter turns into a playful, physical dance, with Susie grinding against him. Callum soon leaves, and the scene gives the label an openly flirtatious, teasing tone rather than presenting it as a settled declaration of romance.

Susie carries the nickname into other settings. At college, she winks at Callum and greets him with it while Celeste is nearby. The repeated address makes the club exchange into a familiar joke between them, one that Susie can deploy in front of her sister. Its casualness matters: at this stage, it marks Susie’s confidence and comic boldness, while Callum does not answer by defining them as a couple.

Teasing Around Celeste

The nickname also becomes part of Susie’s teasing about Callum and Celeste. When the sisters talk over ice cream, Susie asks how things are going with the “sexy man,” then points out that Celeste’s eyes sparkle when she describes how protective Callum has been. Celeste laughs off the suggestion that she likes him, but Susie’s use of the nickname gives the conversation a knowing, gently provocative edge: she sees a romantic possibility that Celeste is not yet willing to name.

At the club later, Susie keeps using her familiar teasing manner even as the situation grows more serious. Celeste has been drinking and calls for Callum; he carries her home, and Susie tells him not to hurt her sister. She also asks what his secret is. Here the nickname sits beside Susie’s protective scrutiny: Callum is still the object of her banter, but Susie is watching his closeness with Celeste and testing what he might conceal. The playful form does not erase the tension between her joking familiarity and her concern for her sister.

From Flirtation to Intimacy

After Susie has become a vampire, the nickname returns during a far more consequential exchange. Callum finds her killing people and tells her that he, too, is a vampire. Susie recognizes his red eyes and addresses him as Sexyman before voicing the fear that her life is over: she cannot return to college or live normally. Callum tries to calm and comfort her. When Susie kisses him, he stops the advance and says that he likes her only as a friend, adding that she will find her mate. The episode sets a clear limit on what the nickname alone might imply: despite her familiar flirtation, Callum does not describe their bond as romantic at this point.

That boundary later becomes less simple. Susie visits Callum while he is training and again calls him Sexyman. She asks for his help, offering to assist him in getting revenge and justice for his mother. The exchange turns into a passionate kiss, and Callum responds to her; they go to bed together. The nickname now accompanies an actual sexual relationship, giving Susie grounds to refer to an intimacy that had previously been only playful or one-sided. The story does not make the term itself a promise of love, but this encounter changes the history that lies behind it.

Rejection and Conflict

When Gabriel reveals that Samara is behind Celeste’s kidnapping, Susie corners Callum at a locker and greets him with the familiar name. Callum pushes her away and says that he does not love her. Susie answers by invoking their sexual relationship, insisting that Celeste would not want him after learning that they had slept together and been intimate. The teasing nickname has become part of a confrontation: Susie’s earlier playful address now leads into a claim about what their shared past should mean for Callum’s future.

Callum responds with anger and threatens Susie if she tries to come between him and Celeste. The scene sharply separates physical intimacy from emotional allegiance. Sexyman can recall Susie’s flirtation, their period of closeness, and her expectation that this history should matter; it cannot make Callum choose her. Across the story, the nickname therefore changes in force without changing its basic function as a direct address. It begins as an exuberant joke, gathers private weight through intimacy, and ends amid a struggle over recognition, rejection, and Celeste’s place in Callum’s life.
