The hotel itself tries to stop him, sending a psychic blast of racist hatred that nearly causes him to crash , and later, a living hedge lion attacks him on the road, forcing him to set it on fire with his Zippo lighter and a gas can .

Rescue and Aftermath

Hallorann arrives at the Overlook to find Wendy Torrance badly beaten and Jack Torrance transformed into a murderous agent of the hotel. Jack ambushes Hallorann in the hallway, striking him twice with a roque mallet, shattering his cheekbone and jaw and knocking him unconscious . When Hallorann regains consciousness, Wendy is beside him, and they hear Jack hunting Danny on the third floor. Hallorann, despite his injuries, helps Wendy and Danny escape the hotel just before the boiler, which Danny tricked Jack into forgetting to check, explodes, destroying the Overlook.
