The Celebration Bonfire

The Celebration Bonfire
Context
Roz announces an additional evening truce and throws a grand party. She builds a giant wood tower in the Great Prairie, disguises herself in flowers, and lights the bonfire.
What Happens
Animals sing, dance, and celebrate life and wilderness around the towering flames. A passing cargo ship sees the fire and the robot, and quietly continues.
Why It Matters
The bonfire is the peak of Roz's acceptance and joy, but it also exposes her location and sets the stage for the invasion.
The RECOs Land

The RECOs Land
Context
A sleek white airship descends onto the meadow at the mountain's foot. Three large, blocky robots with RECO stamped on their chests step out.
What Happens
The RECOs announce they have come to reclaim all ROZZUM units, including Roz. They order her to come with them, and when she questions them, they declare her defective and begin deactivation.
Why It Matters
The invasion brings civilization's cold ownership into Roz's wild home. It directly threatens the family and life she has built, forcing the animals to respond.
The Concerted Animal Defense

The Concerted Animal Defense
Context
Brightbill and the rest of the island hear the RECOs and swarm into the meadow. Geese attack the robots' faces while animals gather from every corner.
What Happens
Using camouflage, trickery, and coordinated attacks, the animals defeat two RECOs: the forest assault tricks RECO 3 into a bog, and the bears ambush RECO 2 at the mountain river. Only RECO 1 remains, pursuing Roz across the island.
Why It Matters
The island's collective bond with Roz transforms into a military alliance. It reveals how far each animal is willing to go for the robot that once was an outsider.
The Final Struggle at the Robot Grave

The Final Struggle at the Robot Grave
Context
Roz's wooden foot shatters during the chase, and she falls onto the robot graveyard. Her camouflage fails, and RECO 1 grabs her, disarming her and preparing to switch her off.
What Happens
Brightbill races to Roz's side and presses her button, restarting her just in time. RECO 1 captures the gosling, but the geese and otters use RECO 3's dropped gun to shoot a laser through RECO 1's chest.
Why It Matters
This is the climactic battle of survival. Roz is dismembered and powerless, proving that her true strength lies in the animals who fight for her.
Offering to Leave

Offering to Leave
Context
The surviving animals assess their wounds: Roz has lost both arms, both legs, and can only think and speak. RECO 1 warned that more RECOs will come, and the Makers will never stop.
What Happens
At two meetings—first with her close friends, then with the entire island at the Dawn Truce—Roz explains that her body is ruined and the only chance for repair lies with her creators. She announces she must leave.
Why It Matters
Roz's decision to leave is an act of love and responsibility. It reverses the island's earlier rejection, now making her sacrifice the highest expression of community membership.
