Two Pines

The Woman in the Window

Two Pines is the Vermont town near which Anna Fox and her family stay during a winter trip, setting the family’s lodging outside town against the nearby resort and an approaching snowstorm. Its role is brief but consequential as the place-name anchoring their journey and the storm warning that shadows it.

Setting and Journey

The family arranges to lodge outside Two Pines, about half an hour from Blue River. The distance separates their accommodation from the ski resort while keeping the trip within reach of it. They stay at the Fisher Arms, a historic inn whose website promotes its fireplaces and snow-framed windows; the narrator’s account then replaces that polished image with the immediate details of arrival, including icicles hanging over the entrance and a rustic interior.

The Storm Warning

At the inn, Marie warns the family that a major storm is coming and tells them to lock their windows that night. The warning gives the winter setting a note of unease: even before the family reaches its suite, the weather has become something to prepare for. Two Pines is thus associated not just with a ski trip, but with a stay shaped by the approaching storm.
