The Message Francine directs her toward the autopsy, the grandson, and the need to repair her home and heart. The reading gives shape to questions Julie already senses.

Griffin Encounter

Research Collides with Romance Chance Julie Deveaux meets Griffin Durocher after a street collision. They discover identical rare books and immediate intellectual chemistry. Complication Griffin's surname connects him to Julie's thesis subject. Their attraction therefore carries the risk of betraying the very person Julie wants to help.

Right-Handed Clue

Anatomy of a Mistake Evidence Julie studies the Santero and Ackerman autopsies and notices that the wounds are inconsistent with Sophia Durocher's right-handedness. Implication The clue does not prove innocence, but it destabilizes the official narrative and gives Griffin a concrete reason to reopen his family's wound.

Mamie Trail

The Missing Witness Identity Shift Julie Deveaux and Griffin Durocher discover that Mamie Reynard changed her name to Carlotta Snow after the murders. Pursuit They connect her disappearance, left-handedness, and former relationship to the victims. The investigation moves from historical speculation to an active search.

Confession And Release

The Case Reopened Confrontation Mamie Reynard holds Julie at knifepoint but confesses to killing R.A. Santero and Nicholas Ackerman and framing Sophia Durocher. Vindication The recording secures Mamie's arrest and Sophia's release. Julie's thesis and family reputation are restored through evidence rather than belief.
