Arondight

Vainqueur the Dragon

Arondight is a legendary dragonslayer sword wielded by Kia Bekele, and its decisive significance lies in the contrast between its exalted purpose and its immediate, almost comic practicality. Forged to kill the mightiest dragons, it serves first as a cane for Kia after a night of excessive wine, then becomes the weapon that cuts Vainqueur Knightsbane’s scales and inflicts specially amplified damage on him. The sword therefore embodies both heroic prestige and the bodily, disorderly reality of the person carrying it.

Nature and Appearance

Arondight is identified as a legendary sword whose intended prey is the most powerful members of the Dragons. Its reputation is not merely ceremonial: the weapon is a cursed fairy artifact specifically designed to kill dragons, and its blade carries the [Fairy] [Dragonslayer] properties that make it unusually dangerous to Vainqueur Knightsbane. Although the evidence does not describe its full shape or construction, its status is established through its legendary name, its dragon-killing purpose, and the combat effects it produces.

The sword is also part of Kia Bekele’s visibly formidable equipment. She keeps it beneath her bed, where it lies among her belongings, and reaches for it while struggling to rise. That placement sharply juxtaposes the weapon’s mythic function with an intimate domestic setting: an artifact made for the greatest monsters in the world is temporarily reduced to furniture-like support in a messy bedroom.

Use in Kia Bekele’s Daily Life

Arondight appears during Kia Bekele’s recovery from drunkenness. After a dark elf teammate forces open her door and rebukes her for still being in bed at one in the afternoon, Kia reaches beneath the bed, takes hold of the sword, and uses it as a cane to stand. The action does not diminish the sword’s power; instead, it exposes the gap between heroic image and ordinary physical circumstance. Kia possesses a weapon fit for dragon slaying, yet in this scene she needs it simply to keep herself upright.

The moment also establishes Arondight as an object closely integrated into Kia’s habits and surroundings. It is accessible enough to serve as an improvised aid, while remaining unmistakably valuable and dangerous. The sword’s presence in this humiliating scene reinforces the comic contrast between Kia’s public identity as a powerful knight and her private condition after drinking too much wine.

The Attack on Vainqueur Knightsbane

Arondight’s true function becomes apparent when Kia Bekele confronts Vainqueur Knightsbane. Kia arrives as the Shining Knight of Gardemagne, riding an adult griffon and attacking from the air. Vainqueur initially responds with a fireball, but Kia and her mount evade the flames through a burst of strong wind and dive toward him at a speed that even the dragon struggles to track.

During that dive, Kia uses Arondight to slash Vainqueur between the neck and shoulder, cutting one of his scales. The wound is not a symbolic near miss. The weapon’s system-recognized properties then inflict doubly effective [Fairy] [Dragonslayer] damage, confirming that Arondight’s legendary anti-dragon identity has concrete battlefield consequences. A single strike allows Kia to penetrate Vainqueur’s natural defenses and demonstrates why the dragon regards the sword as a cursed fairy work intended for his destruction.

Tactical and Narrative Significance

Arondight gives Kia Bekele a specialized advantage in a confrontation where mobility and surprise are essential. Kia does not remain on the ground to trade blows with Vainqueur; she uses the griffon’s flight, wind-assisted evasion, and the sword’s dragon-slaying properties in combination. After the strike, she and the griffon retreat before Vainqueur can retaliate effectively, leaving the weapon’s impact concentrated in one sudden aerial breach of his defenses.

The sword also changes Vainqueur’s understanding of the threat facing him. He recognizes that Kia is not merely an ordinary knight but an opponent equipped with an artifact designed to exploit his species. Her ability to notice him despite his invisibility further complicates the encounter, but Arondight remains the physical instrument that converts detection and speed into actual injury. Its presence transforms Kia’s attack from harassment into a credible danger to a dragon.

Symbolic Contrast

Arondight’s two recorded uses form a compact pattern. In the bedroom, the legendary sword is an aid to a fallen knight; in the sky, it is the blade of a disciplined predator striking a dragon’s vulnerable joint. The same object moves between farce and lethal seriousness without losing its identity. That instability makes Arondight especially revealing: heroic objects do not belong only to ceremonious battles, but remain entangled with the flawed, embarrassing lives of their owners.

Its anti-dragon enchantment also creates an ironic reversal in the surrounding power structure. Vainqueur Knightsbane is accustomed to being the overwhelming monster, yet the sword reduces that superiority by applying a specialized weakness. Arondight thus represents the rare material fact that can interrupt Vainqueur’s confidence: legendary status alone cannot protect him from an artifact made expressly to kill creatures like him.
