Finding Father’s Secret Apartment in Kiel takes place after the father’s death, when Josse and his brother follow a long-running rent payment to a furnished apartment near the Kiel Fjord. The discovery is more than the uncovering of a hidden address: the rooms offer material evidence of a life their father had kept apart from the family, while leaving the people and circumstances behind that life only partly known. What the brothers find does not close the story of their father. It makes the past itself feel less settled.
