Priest Among Warriors

Priest Among Warriors
Shared Humanity
Sittas accompanies the Komani because he believes that warriors possess souls despite their violence. His presence complicates the Terran image of them as mere barbarians.
He speaks with Emil Vorgens about old alliances, peace, and the possibility of changing enemies into neighbors.
A Trusting Friendship
Vorgens finds in Sittas the first person to call him a friend. Their bond gives the young officer a moral vocabulary beyond orders and military categories.
The Hospital Sanctuary

The Hospital Sanctuary
Care Beyond Allegiance
Sittas turns Matara’s town hall into a hospital for Terran, Komani, and Shinarian wounded. He persuades local families to shelter foreigners whom war has made enemies.
When a Komani officer demands the Terrans as prisoners, Sittas invokes sanctuary and refuses him publicly. The old priest’s authority is religious, civic, and personal at once.
Humanity as Leverage
The hospital does not end the war, but it creates a protected space where the logic of combat temporarily stops. Mercy becomes an active political force.
Bridge to Peace

Bridge to Peace
The Trusted Mediator
Sittas brings rebel leaders to Emil Vorgens and helps make the conference possible. Both sides distrust formal institutions, but they trust the priest’s conduct.
His mediation allows the parties to distinguish surrender from negotiation. He helps transform peace from an abstract wish into a decision with material risks.
A Moral Victory
Sittas never commands an army. His influence comes from insisting that every side remains responsible for the lives it claims to defend.
