The Predator’s Lair

Following the Mayak
Into the Woods
After examining Heimval’s remains, Ragnar follows the creature’s tracks toward distant hills and a cave. He sends Cnut back to the settlement, judging that the frightened man can help the community more than he can help in a solitary hunt.
A Deliberate Vigil
Ragnar waits near the cave rather than charge into the predator’s lair. His patience recognizes that courage alone will not overcome an animal with speed, strength, and home-ground advantage.
The Shape Behind the Beast

A Hunt Changes Meaning
The Mayak Falls
Ragnar draws the Mayak into a fight and wounds it repeatedly with Raven Caller. The creature’s strength fails, and its collapse gives him the opening to approach with caution.
A Human Form Revealed
The beast contracts into a branded man, whose eyes turn black as he unleashes sorcery. Ragnar resists the spell and kills him, learning that the predator was a shape-shifting sorcerer rather than an ordinary beast.
The Barrows Open

The Larger Horror
Ground in Upheaval
Tremors split open the earth near The Ancient Barrows, exposing a vast cavern alive with luminous eyes and movement. The dead sorcerer’s final magic has released something far more dangerous than the Mayak.
A Warning Becomes Urgent
Ragnar understands that a multitude of creatures is climbing toward the surface. He leaves the cave country to warn the settlements before the buried threat can reach them.
