Project
Being and NothingnessProject is both a noun and a verb: it names the For-itself’s choice of its way of being and the action in which that choice takes form. It links what a person chooses to be with the future end that gives the choice direction.
Choice and Action
A Project is not merely an intention held apart from conduct. The For-itself’s choice is expressed through action, which takes its significance from the end toward which it is directed. The concept therefore joins a way of being to the activity that enacts it.
The Future End
The future end is essential to the meaning of a Project: action is understood in its light, as oriented toward what is not yet attained. In using one word for both choice and its active expression, the definition presents the Project as a lived relation between choosing a way of being and moving toward an end.
