A Spirit in the Lineage The long pursuit Lasher haunts the Mayfair family after appearing to Suzanne in Donnelaith. Across generations he influences the family while waiting for a witch capable of bearing a Taltos child. Misunderstood intentions Even powerful members of the family believe Lasher was once human. His hidden identity allows him to exploit their powers and direct family history toward his own rebirth.

A Child Possessed

A Child Possessed A birth transformed Rowan gives birth to a rapidly growing Taltos child, and Lasher enters its body. The creature combines the species’ innate knowledge with Lasher’s desire for power and reproduction. Rowan’s flight Fearing that Michael and others will destroy it, Rowan leaves with the child. Her decision protects the creature but separates her from Michael and begins a period of danger and concealment.

Lasher’s Death

Lasher’s Death A final confrontation Lasher appears at the family home and appeals for protection, but Michael confronts and kills him. The spirit’s long effort to return to embodied life ends. The cost remains Rowan awakens from her coma to a changed life and a lost child. Lasher’s death closes his direct threat but does not undo the suffering he caused.
