Lorkyn Mayfair and Rodrigo
Blood CanticleLorkyn Mayfair and Rodrigo are linked by a relationship of imposed proximity and covert resistance: while appearing to serve Rodrigo, Lorkyn worked to gather resources, undermine his contacts, and find a way to free Oberon and Miravelle. Her account shows why she delayed seeking outside help and why she believed she had to wait for a safer opportunity.
Forced Proximity and Hidden Resistance
Lorkyn explains that she could access Rodrigo’s financial information only because she had played the role he expected of her. Using that access, she shifted money from Rodrigo into numbered accounts intended for the group and passed information about his activities in Miami Beach to the authorities there. She also worked to eliminate his local contacts as quickly as she could. The apparent compliance that kept her close to Rodrigo thus became the means of quietly weakening his operation.
Her efforts were constrained by the danger surrounding him. Lorkyn says she had no opportunity to kill Rodrigo: wherever they went, dozens of armed men accompanied them. She distinguishes her own long preparation from the eventual intervention of the blond-haired stranger who killed Rodrigo after overpowering his armed guards; she had never possessed that kind of power or advantage.
The Plan to Escape
Lorkyn says she was accumulating money and waiting for an opening to deal with Rodrigo and his mother, free Oberon and Miravelle, and get everyone safely to Mayfair Medical. The plan joined several aims—escape, protection, and access to help—but depended on surviving the island’s immediate dangers and finding a viable destination.
The legal and financial trail was difficult to establish. Lorkyn had been trying to determine her parents’ legal identities and who legally owned the Secret Isle, but she did not know her father’s last name. Years earlier, when her father feared trouble from Silas, he destroyed documents that might have allowed Silas to take control of his finances; his lawyers arrived by plane and left with the remaining materials in their briefcases. Without the names Templeton and Lost Paradise, Lorkyn could not connect the family to her father’s lawyers in New York.
Why She Withheld the Appeal
Lorkyn says she spent her ample spare time researching Mayfair Medical and Rowan Mayfair online, after her father had told the group about both. She wanted to know whether Rowan had the power, experience, or means to free them from Rodrigo and his criminal family, and found no assurance that she did. On that basis, Lorkyn concluded that she first had to take care of Rodrigo and only then get off the island and contact Rowan.
Oberon challenges her decision, asking why she did not contact the authorities or email evidence to the Drug Enforcement Agency. Lorkyn answers by asking him to consider where that choice would have left them. The exchange frames her silence not as proof that she had no plan, but as a decision made under conditions in which an appeal could expose the people she hoped to rescue to further danger.
Oberon’s Doubt and Lorkyn’s Account
Oberon does not immediately accept what Lorkyn tells him; he appears to want to believe her but remains uncertain. His skepticism puts the limits of her position into the open: she cannot offer proof of every intention, and she asks him and Miravelle to use their judgment. Her account nevertheless connects concrete actions—diverting funds, informing authorities about Rodrigo’s activities, and researching Mayfair Medical—to a consistent objective: preparing a route out for herself and the others while avoiding a premature move that could leave them trapped.
