River Mersey
Blow OutThe River Mersey is part of the route Heather Rand takes with her dog Jake through the park and toward Stenner Woods. In the account of her shooting, the river marks the transition from a familiar walk to the woods where the attack occurs.
Setting and Route
Heather enjoys the quiet of this green part of the city, which she regards as a striking contrast to traffic on Kingsway. Walking Jake, she passes through the rock gardens, around the pool and rose garden, and across the fields toward the River Mersey. The route continues along the river before turning into Stenner Woods.
Role in Heather Rand’s Shooting
Heather later recounts the walk as part of her movements that day: after returning home at about six, she takes Jake out, follows the park route to the river, and then heads into the woods. She identifies the point after entering the woods as when she was shot. The river is thus a concrete landmark in the otherwise ordinary itinerary that leads into the attack’s location.
