Las Vegas

Cinder & Ella

Las Vegas is the brief hideout Brian Oliver chooses after Ella turns him away. Its importance lies in the contrast between the solitude he seeks and the public consequences he can no longer ignore: in the dark hotel room, he begins to remember that Ella has become famous because of him, while Scott arrives to bring him back into the world he has tried to leave behind.

Setting and Arrival

Brian wakes alone in a dark hotel room and struggles to place himself, recognizing Las Vegas only as his mind pieces together what happened. He had gone there after Ella rejected him and had been drinking heavily. Even he cannot tell whether only a few hours or a full day has passed, leaving the duration of his retreat uncertain.

Scott Finds Brian

Scott, whom Brian had apparently given time off, has followed him to Las Vegas and is calling from outside the room. Brian resents the interruption and initially thinks of his assistant as overzealous. But Scott’s arrival also ends Brian’s isolation: he has come because Brian may be in no condition to travel home safely.

The Public Fallout

As Brian demands that Scott explain what is happening, his frustration over Ella’s refusal gives way to a more urgent concern. He remembers that his actions have made her famous overnight and wonders whether the media has discovered her identity, whether she is being harassed, or whether Kaylee has harmed her. Las Vegas therefore marks not just Brian’s attempted escape after rejection, but the moment he turns back toward the danger his own fame may have brought to Ella.

The Return Becomes Possible

Scott says he flew to Las Vegas rather than driving, anticipating that Brian would want to return home and might not be fit to drive. Brian acknowledges that Scott had judged the situation correctly. Scott adds that he used Brian’s credit card to book the flight and treated himself to a first-class upgrade. The exchange gives the tense rescue a dryly comic edge, while establishing that Scott has both located Brian and arranged a safer route out of the city.
