The Council’s Old Resolution

The Council’s Old Resolution
A recurring prohibition
Sphere brings Square to the Flatland Grand Council as it repeats an order against people claiming revelations from another world. The millennial procedure treats such claims as a threat before examining their evidence.
A secret history
The President knows that similar appearances occurred at earlier millennial meetings, but keeps that knowledge within the governing circle. The Council’s response protects institutional authority rather than investigating what the visitors might mean.
The Sphere Appears

The Sphere Appears
A public demonstration
Sphere enters the Council chamber and presents a circular cross-section that grows and contracts as he passes through Flatland. For the assembled figures, the changing shape offers a brief encounter with evidence outside their normal experience.
Authority contains the spectacle
Low-ranking attackers cannot hold Sphere as he vanishes from their plane. The presiding Circle dismisses the event as a known secret, orders witnesses silenced, and prevents public discussion.
The Witnesses Imprisoned

The Witnesses Imprisoned
Secrecy enforced
The President orders the guards who witnessed the appearance arrested and silenced. Square’s brother, serving as clerk, is also condemned to perpetual imprisonment because he knows what the Council intends to conceal.
Revelation turned into precedent
The Council lets the spectacle disappear from public memory while preserving its own account. The episode shows that evidence alone cannot overcome a system empowered to control who may speak about it.
