A Warning at Home

A Warning at Home
The first disappearance
After a punishing day, Agnès Dantier returns to her home in Cimiez. Someone attacks her outside before she can reach safety, and she vanishes without a witness able to intervene.
A second target
Vincent Dantier is taken as well. Cut-out newspaper messages left in their homes imply that the abductions are connected to the purported threat against the Tour, sending investigators toward a misleading political explanation.
The Search Begins

The Search Begins
A citywide hunt
Paul Darac finds the ransom-style note in Agnès’s apartment and learns that Vincent has also disappeared. The Brigade Criminelle launches searches, canvasses witnesses, and traces a white Mercedes long-wheelbase van.
A manufactured blind spot
A witness’s account and damaged surveillance footage show that the kidnappers prepared the scene in advance. The staged image at La Marguerite conceals the moment when Agnès was taken, demonstrating that the captors understood how police searches would work.
Captives Under the Viaduct

Captives Under the Viaduct
Physical degradation
Agnès and Vincent wake in a locked van, restrained, shaved, deprived of food and water, and surrounded by mannequins. Train noise overhead hides their cries and confirms that their captors have chosen a concealed location near the railway.
Holding on together
Agnès tries to keep both herself and her father alert by reasoning through their surroundings and recalling possible enemies. Vincent’s despair grows as the captors’ purpose remains unknown, while their relationship becomes their main defense against terror.
The Family Reckoning

The Family Reckoning
The captor revealed
David Jarret appears with Corinne Delage and explains that the kidnapping is revenge for the fate of the Djourescu family. He accuses Vincent of informing on Adam Djourescu during the occupation and of helping send the family toward deportation.
Cruelty as punishment
The captors use humiliation and violence to make Vincent and Agnès experience helplessness. Jarret’s account also reveals that his father, Jean Florian, survived through a newborn exchange, binding the current crime to the concealed origins of Emil Florian.
Rescue at the Lockup

Rescue at the Lockup
A narrowing lead
Paul Darac follows the trail toward a row of rented lockups beneath intersecting railways and roads. Water leaking from one unit suggests the captors may be trying to wash or conceal something inside.
A forced rescue
Darac rams his car through the roller door and stops the vehicle-exhaust attack before it can kill the captives. He disarms the immediate threat, frees Agnès, and gets emergency medical help to her and Vincent.
