Avenue Marguerite

Impure Blood

Avenue Marguerite becomes the scene where an intended call on Agnès turns into a suspected abduction investigation. Darac and Frankie arrive after receiving no answer, enter her home, and find no body—only a ransom message made from cut-out newsprint on her pillow.

The Planned Visit

Darac proposes that he and Frankie call at Avenue Marguerite after their interview with Medusa. The plan is presented as a joint visit, with Darac clarifying that he and Frankie will go together. Its practical purpose changes when the two reach Agnès’s door and cannot get her to answer.

Entry and Search

At 1:50 p.m., after three separate rings have failed to bring anyone to the door, Darac takes a couple of picks from his tool roll. Frankie notices that he has no key and makes a teasing remark about his physical intimacy with Agnès; Darac cuts off the insinuation with a look. The exchange briefly places their personal familiarity alongside the procedural act of gaining entry, but the search soon takes a darker turn.

The Ransom Note

Inside, Darac initially finds the kitchen normal. In the dining room, photographs trace the careers of Agnès and her father, Vincent: each is pictured receiving a promotion, and a photograph of the two commissaires together holds pride of place. The images convey their closeness just before Frankie, her face ashen, calls Darac to Agnès’s bedroom.

Darac enters expecting the possibility of finding a body, but there is no corpse in the room. Instead, an A4 sheet lies on the pillow. Recognizing the implications of the message, he stops himself from picking it up so as not to disturb the evidence. Formed from cut-out newsprint, the note marks the home as a crime scene and redirects the inquiry from a failed visit toward Agnès’s disappearance. The familiar domestic space and family photographs sharpen the contrast: the search finds not an explanation, but a carefully placed sign that someone has taken her.
