A Neighborhood Erased

Development on Cleared Land
Displacement
Tariq Khalil tells Doc that the Artesia Crips neighborhood where he grew up has been demolished. The land is being converted into Channel View Estates, leaving former residents to search for places that no longer exist.
The Pattern
Doc recognizes a familiar Los Angeles history in which land development pushes communities aside. The new housing project presents displacement as progress while concealing the human cost behind construction signs and model homes.
A Dangerous Assignment

A Search for Glen
A Debt Comes Due
Tariq hires Doc to locate Glen Charlock, an Aryan Brotherhood acquaintance who owes him money from prison. Glen now works as a bodyguard for Mickey Wolfmann, a connection that makes a simple debt collection hazardous.
Uneasy Overlap
Tariq also explains that the development has replaced his old neighborhood. Doc realizes that the same project links Tariq's personal loss to Mickey's business, and the investigation begins to entangle a private debt with larger political violence.
The Masked Assault

Armed Men at the Site
A Coordinated Raid
Farley Branch's footage shows masked gunmen moving through Channel View Estates with military weapons. Mickey's bikers scatter, and the supposedly abandoned construction site becomes a battleground.
Glen Is Killed
The film records Glen being shot while unarmed and visibly frightened. The image makes his death more than a police report: it shows how an organized force can turn a person into a target while surrounding witnesses struggle to understand the attack.
Who Was the Target

A False Explanation
The Official Confusion
Police initially treat Doc as a likely killer because he was found unconscious near Glen's body and had asked after him. The discovery of the footage undermines that simple account without identifying the masked shooter.
A Changed Theory
Puck later says the raid was meant to kill Glen, who had become distrusted by the people arranging an arms deal. Mickey's disappearance followed when he was caught in the operation, separating the murder's original purpose from its unexpected consequence.
A Crime Without Closure

Unreadable Evidence
The Mask Remains
Enlargements from the raid film fail to reveal the gunman's identity. Arthur Tweedle's militia connection makes him a plausible suspect, but the images cannot establish that he fired the fatal shots.
The Cost of Uncertainty
The unresolved identity matters because the assault belongs to a larger system of private violence and official tolerance. Doc can reconstruct parts of the event, yet the decisive proof remains beyond reach.
