A Vessel Enters the Hall

Wonder Without Sight
Presence in the feast
The Grail passes through Arthur’s hall covered and unseen. Yet its fragrance and magically provided food make each knight experience the marvel personally.
Mystery is not possession
The knights see the effects of the vessel but cannot command it. From the outset, the Grail resists the court’s usual habit of turning wonders into prizes.
The Siege Perilous

A Seat for the Worthy
A place remains empty
The Siege Perilous has been reserved for a knight who can occupy it without harm. Its vacancy marks the court’s limits and its unfulfilled spiritual promise.
Galahad fulfills the sign
Galahad sits safely and draws the sword from the stone. His achievement is a sign of qualification, not an invitation for every knight to claim the same honor.
The Quest Separates the Knights

Desire Becomes a Test
A shared vow
The knights swear to pursue the Grail, but each enters the quest with different assumptions about what courage can achieve. Their confidence is quickly challenged.
Purity matters
The quest rewards patience, confession, and chastity more than ordinary prowess. The knights who lack these qualities encounter frustration, rebuke, or spiritual danger.
The Grail Heals and Judges

A Sacred Wound Is Healed
Pellam’s suffering ends
Galahad heals the maimed king with the blood of the spear. A long history of violence is answered by a sacred act rather than by another battle.
Revelation remains selective
The Grail and its mysteries are revealed only to the knights who can receive them. The episode makes mercy a form of healing while preserving the mystery’s limits.
The Grail Leaves Britain

Achievement Ends in Departure
Galahad reaches the goal
Galahad beholds the Grail’s full mystery and becomes king in Sarras. He has fulfilled the quest, but his success carries him beyond the world of Arthur’s court.
What remains to the living
Galahad dies, the Grail departs, and Bors returns alone. Spiritual achievement cannot be turned into permanent possession by the Round Table.
