Brabant

Le Morte d'Arthur

Brabant is a territory on the route of King Arthur’s continental campaign against Rome. Its brief appearance places it between Lorraine and Flanders in the army’s return journey toward Germany and Italy, making it part of the campaign’s expanding geography rather than the setting of a separately narrated episode.

Place in the Roman Campaign

After a major battle against the Romans, King Arthur and his knights move through Lorraine, Brabant, and Flanders. They then turn back into Germany and cross the mountains into Lombardy, continuing into Tuscany. The sequence gives Brabant a clear place in the campaign’s west-to-southward movement across the Continent.

Narrative Role

The account names Brabant among the lands traversed but does not describe a battle, settlement, or local encounter there. Its significance in the narrative is geographical: it marks one stage in a route that carries Arthur’s army from the Roman conflict toward the later operations in Italy.
