Church of All Worlds Logo
Stranger in a Strange LandThe Church of All Worlds標志 is the church’s recurring visual emblem: nine concentric circles surrounding a conventionalized Sun. Worn over the heart on a priestess’s vestments and displayed behind Mike during a service, it marks both the institution and the communal rituals through which people are welcomed into the Nest.
Design and Placement
On Patricia Paiwonski’s priestess robe, the emblem is embroidered over her heart. The robe’s high neck, long sleeves, and opaque fabric distinguish her ceremonial office from her tattooed appearance outside the service. The symbol is not merely decoration: worn on the body, it identifies Patricia as a priestess when she leads Ben Caxton through the Nest toward the church gathering.
The emblem also appears on the wall behind Mike on the platform in the main auditorium. The setting is described as a lecture hall, without pulpit or altar; the symbol supplies a visible focus as Mike addresses the congregation. Its placement connects the church’s public teaching to the same identity its vestments carry into ritual.
Connection to Rites of Welcome
The emblem belongs to a community organized around shared water, trust, and progressive entry. Patricia explains that the Innermost Temple is where new brothers are received into the Nest; its circular room centers on a pool. In a separate water-sharing ceremony, Patricia accepts Jill and Mike’s invitation after they make clear that she may refuse without losing their friendship. The emblem’s appearance on priestly clothing thus accompanies a practice in which belonging is offered rather than imposed.
The church’s circle structure gives that welcome a defined progression. Mike may recognize readiness unusually early: Sam and Ruth received water after entering the Third Circle and later became priest and priestess. Entry into the Eighth Circle begins a stage of sharing and growing closer; the Ninth Circle and the Nest mark fuller incorporation. At a ceremony for candidates advancing to the Eighth Circle, Jill appears as Mother Eve, and Mike kisses candidates as their robes vanish. The emblem displayed behind the service helps identify the institution within which these stages and ceremonies take place.
Institutional Meaning
The emblem links visible affiliation to bodily and communal transformation. It is present both on a priestess’s heart and behind the teacher addressing the congregation, joining personal vocation to public doctrine. In the church’s rites, that identity is enacted through water-sharing, instruction, and welcome into the Nest; the symbol therefore represents a community whose membership is expressed not only by a sign, but by relationships and commitments that the sign accompanies.
