A Gift from Gard

A Gift from Gard
A companion arrives
Gard gives Bobbi a beagle puppy named Peter. At a lonely point in Bobbi’s life, the dog becomes a steady companion and a measure of passing time.
Shared routines
Peter accompanies her through walks, chores, and quiet evenings. Their affection is ordinary and durable, built through daily life rather than grand declarations.
Fear at the Excavation

Fear at the Excavation
A dog’s warning
Peter recoils from the metal in the earth and howls when Bobbi approaches it. His response gives her an animal’s unambiguous warning before she understands the danger.
The warning is ignored
Bobbi returns to dig, while Peter’s fear becomes entangled with her growing compulsion. The bond remains, but the ship begins to separate their perceptions.
A Brief Rejuvenation

A Brief Rejuvenation
The cataract recedes
Peter’s clouded eye improves after exposure to the ship, and his coordination and apparent vigor return. Bobbi is relieved to think he may outlive the decline she feared.
A price not understood
The healing appears miraculous, but it occurs alongside animal panic and other disturbing effects. Bobbi cannot yet separate Peter’s recovery from the ship’s influence.
Peter’s Captivity

Peter’s Captivity
A concealed truth
Bobbi tells Gard that Peter died naturally, but later evidence shows that the dog is alive in the shed. He has been connected to the transformer as a source of power.
Love becomes exploitation
Peter’s affectionate trust is used against him. The contrast between the dog’s earlier companionship and his captivity becomes the starkest measure of Bobbi’s transformation.
An End to Suffering

An End to Suffering
The sight inside the shed
Gard sees Peter’s exposed brain connected to cables while the dog’s legs move in the liquid. The scene converts his fear and grief into a clear need to end the system.
Release through destruction
The transformer is destroyed, and Peter’s suffering ends with the collapse of the shed’s power. Gard’s rescue is an act of love, although it cannot restore the dog he remembers.
