The Mock Turtle's Story

The Gryphon takes Alice to see the Mock Turtle, who is sitting sadly on a rock. The Mock Turtle tells his history, describing his education at the bottom of the sea, with subjects like Reeling and Writhing, Ambition, Distraction, Uglification, and Derision. He explains that lessons lessen from day to day, so the eleventh day is a holiday. The Gryphon interrupts and suggests telling about the games instead.
