The Trial of the Knave of Hearts
Alice arrives at the court where the King and Queen of Hearts are seated on their throne. The Knave of Hearts is on trial for stealing the Queen's tarts. The White Rabbit reads the accusation, and the Hatter is called as the first witness. The Hatter's testimony is confused, and he is dismissed. The cook is the next witness but refuses to give evidence. The White Rabbit then calls Alice as a witness. Alice has grown large during the trial and accidentally upsets the jury-box. The King reads Rule Forty-two, ordering anyone more than a mile high to leave, but Alice refuses. The White Rabbit produces a set of verses as evidence, which the King interprets as proof of the Knave's guilt, but Alice argues they are nonsense.
