Lake Union

Lake Union is the setting of Johnny Ryan’s houseboat, a private domestic refuge that becomes the place where Kate Mularkey waits for him while trying to contain her hopes for their relationship. Its ordinary waterfront sounds and close connection to home life give the location an emotional charge: comfort remains, but it is newly vulnerable.
