The Girl in the Meadow

The First Temptation The Mockery Serret, a girl of about Ged's age, mocked him into boasting. She asked him to summon a spirit, and he read the spell that loosed the first shadow. She was a catalyst for his fall. The Witch's Daughter Ogion warned that her mother was a sorceress. Serret was already half-witch, and she enjoyed manipulating Ged. This early encounter planted the seeds of later betrayal.

The Lady of the Court

The Beautiful Temptress The Seduction Serret, now the Lady of the Terrenon, welcomed Ged and tended to him. She was beautiful and kind, but she was trying to lure him into using the Stone. She offered him power and companionship. The Confession She revealed that she had been sent to tempt him, and that she had been a servant of the Stone. She wanted to rule with him. Ged was tempted, but he refused.

The Escape and Death

The Final Betrayal The Killing of the Servants When Benderesk tried to curse Serret, she killed the servants with a spell. She then led Ged to the gate, but she was using him to save herself. The Death of the Gull Serret transformed into a gull, but the Stone's servants caught and killed her. Ged, in hawk form, saw her die. She was a victim of her own ambition, and her betrayal of Ged led to her destruction.
