Nazeer–Abdel Khader Khan
ShantaramThe relationship between Nazeer and Abdel Khader Khan is founded on shared danger, discretion, and a promise of revenge. Nazeer had served as the outside man during Abdel Khader Khan’s escape, and later carried out the older man’s instruction to return to Bombay and avenge him if he did not survive the war. Their bond thus links a past of daring criminal action to the postwar struggle that reshaped the Bombay Mafia Council.
Operational Trust
Salman Mustaan recalls Nazeer and Abdel Khader Khan as wild partners in the days of the escape, with Nazeer acting as the outside man. The role marks him as more than an associate: he was trusted to work beyond the immediate danger and help make the escape possible. The recollection gives their relationship a history of practical dependence, established before the later war and its consequences.
The Secret and the Vow
Abdul Ghani had planned to use a trap in Pakistan to eliminate Abdel Khader Khan and other council members who opposed him. Friends in Pakistan warned Abdel Khader Khan, allowing him, Nazeer, Khaled Ansari, and Lin to escape. Abdel Khader Khan then entrusted Nazeer with the truth about Abdul Ghani’s role and a conditional instruction: if the war killed him, Nazeer was to return to Bombay and avenge him. The instruction made Nazeer custodian of both a dangerous secret and a personal obligation.
Revenge and Its Aftermath
After Abdul Ghani’s death, Nazeer returned to Bombay and the retaliation went forward. Sanjay Kumar confirms that, after they had dealt with Abdul Ghani, they also eliminated the remaining men on his side; the others were dead or had fled Bombay. The two-week gang war ended with six deaths and the Bombay Mafia Council’s power back in the hands of Nazeer and the Khader faction. The outcome gives the earlier vow a political consequence: loyalty to Abdel Khader Khan became part of the faction’s recovery of power, while the secret he had entrusted to Nazeer shaped what followed his death.
