Tori Sleeper and Mr. Sleeper

Strike

Tori Sleeper and Mr. Sleeper’s father-daughter relationship is carried forward through an act of remembrance: Tori and her partner made their home on Chinicook and preserved the island’s remaining landscape in honor of her father, who had died defending it.

Loss and Legacy

In another life and time, Mr. Sleeper died trying to protect his beloved island from invaders who had taken over their world. His death links Tori’s family history to Chinicook not only as a place of loss, but as the place her father chose to defend.

A Memorial on Chinicook

Tori and her partner purchased a remote property on the north side of Pemberwick Island, known as Chinicook. They built a seaside home there and kept the rest of the property as an unspoiled nature preserve in Mr. Sleeper’s honor. The preserve gives their remembrance a lasting form: rather than developing the whole property, they set aside its remaining landscape as a tribute to his defense of the island he loved.
