He is described as low built, gross of face and body, with the Harkonnen paternal line's narrow-set eyes and bulge of shoulders. There is yet some rigidity in his fat, but it is obvious to the eye that he'd come one day to the portable suspensors for carrying his excess weight. The Baron considers him a "muscle-minded tank-brain," a man who will grind over everything in his path, and he is known for his brutality, which earned him the Fremen name "Mudir Nahya," meaning "Demon Ruler."

Life and Plot Trajectory

Rabban first appears in the narrative as the Baron's nephew, present during the planning of the campaign against House Atreides. He is the former regent-siridar of Arrakis, having ruled the planet before the Atreides took over. After the fall of House Atreides, the Baron summons Rabban to Arrakis and gives him the planet once more, with the sole requirement of squeezing every possible cent of income from it. The Baron tells him, "If you squeeze Arrakis for every cent it can give us for sixty years, you'll just barely repay us!"
