Radiation Hag
GunsoulThe Radiation Hag is the Thunderlands’ corrupted caretaker: a monstrous being whose body and territory bear the effects of radiation. Holster’s purification briefly restores the woman she once was, but cannot save her; the hag dies, leaving behind a grotesque remnant of flesh and corrupted qi.
Identity and Condition
The Radiation Hag’s monstrous form is not presented as her original appearance. Before radiation poisoned the Thunderlands, she had the face of a beautiful woman. In her corrupted state, she is enormous and disfigured, with lightning leaking from her hands and Centidead maggots clinging to her body. The transformation makes the damage to the land visible in its caretaker: her condition is bound to the territory she embodies.
The surrounding region offers a glimpse of this environmental corruption. Yuan finds a ruined city where poisonous dust rides the wind and is difficult even for his bullet-core to assimilate. The landscape feels diseased, reinforcing the sense that the Thunderlands’ damage is not confined to the hag’s body.
Confrontation and Purification
During the confrontation, the Radiation Hag’s resistance weakens until her limbs stop moving. Yuan watches her qi closely and learns to recognize Holster’s method. Holster treats the hag not simply as an enemy to be killed but as a corrupted vessel: she guides the caretaker’s untainted energies into the spirit-train’s circulatory system while isolating the rot in the hag’s heart.
The effects are striking but temporary. The hag’s massive body shrinks to human size, and her disfigured face briefly rearranges into the beautiful visage she had before the radiation poisoned the Thunderlands. The Centidead maggots fall away like shed skin, writhing and dying without their host. Tumors and corroded parts of her spirit fill the hole in her chest in a futile effort to heal.
Death and Remains
The hag weakly resists the purification, but cannot endure it. Her body turns to dust, and her qi returns to the Dao. Holster’s work exposes the woman beneath the monstrous form, yet it does not reverse the damage enough to preserve her life.
What remains is a table-sized, shapeless mass of pallid flesh, tumors, and corrupted qi. Half-formed faces writhe beneath its fatty surface, making the final image less a restoration than a revelation of what the corruption has left behind. The Radiation Hag’s ending marks both the release of the land’s untainted energies and the terrible cost of its long poisoning.
