Laval University
SatanLaval University is presented through the educational paths of two members of the D’Anjou family rather than through an institutional portrait. For Georges D’Anjou and Isabelle D’Anjou, it serves as a setting for different approaches to study and professional direction.
Family Connections
Georges D’Anjou had recently begun studying law at Laval University when he is introduced among the family gathered after the discovery of a jewel in Élie D’Anjou’s grave. His presence places the university within the family’s younger generation and its professional ambitions.
Isabelle D’Anjou’s Studies
In September 1979, at twenty-one, Isabelle D’Anjou enrolled in archaeology at Laval University. The choice followed an earlier period of uncertainty about her studies and a visit to Pompeii that had sparked her interest in archaeology. After a year, she left the subject and moved to history, concentrating on art history—a field closer to her longstanding interest in the arts.
Narrative Role
The university links two family members to formal study, but their paths diverge: Georges begins in law, while Isabelle’s studies shift from archaeology toward art history. The brief references make Laval University a point of connection in the family’s story and a marker of Isabelle’s changing sense of vocation.
