King Strom

Tide

King Strom is identified as Meira’s father and as the King Under the Water, a sovereign whose power helps hold back a threat to Edel. The narrative presents him indirectly: his identity is spoken aloud, and his protective role is explained, but he does not appear or act in the supplied scenes. This distance makes him both a family connection for Meira and part of the larger system defending the land.

Identity and Introduction

Galahad addresses the rescued girl in her own language as Princess Meira, daughter of Strom, King Under the Water. The formal greeting establishes her as a royal daughter before she can explain herself; her startled response shows that the recognition is unexpected to her. Through that naming, Strom enters the story as the source of Meira’s lineage and status, even though the scene remains focused on her encounter with Galahad.

Power and the Seven Seals

Explaining his mission from the Fortress of Maith, Galahad tells Prince James that the masters there watch over Edel’s Seven Seals. The first Curse-Breakers laid the seals to protect Edel from Curse-Makers arriving from other shores. Each seal has a guardian whose life is bound to it, and whose duty is to keep it strong. These details place Strom within a protective order that joins royal power to the seals: the account of the danger to Edel says that the destructive force under discussion is kept from flooding the land and unleashing tempests only by the power of the Mer-king, Strom, and the seven seals.

Fatherhood and Meira’s Peril

Meira’s parentage gives her a place in the underwater royal family, but the evidence does not describe Strom’s knowledge of, response to, or involvement in her predicament. She has made a bargain for a spell whose conditions make her future depend on marrying the prince: marriage would restore her speech and allow her to live the rest of her life as a human. The account establishes the stakes for Strom’s daughter, not an action taken by Strom; it does not show him intervening in the bargain or the curse.

Narrative Role and Limits of the Record

Strom’s significance rests on two connected functions: he identifies Meira’s royal ancestry, and his power is named alongside the Seven Seals as a defense against catastrophe. Both are conveyed through other characters’ speech rather than through a scene with Strom himself. The resulting portrait is deliberately bounded: the evidence supports his status, his relationship to Meira, and his role in protecting Edel, but supplies no account of his temperament, rule, appearance, or private relationship with his daughter.
