Sir Lancelot

Tide

Sir Lancelot is a knight errant known for traveling across Edel and for a record of notable adventures. Introduced in Mhuirlan as a companion of Sir Tristan, he combines a far-ranging life on the road with established ties to Prince James and Sir Gawain.

Identity and Introduction

Sir Lancelot introduces himself to Galahad Stormcrane and Meira as their servant, greeting Galahad with marked deference. His English is fluent, but his accent is described as glottal and delicate; it places him on the western side of the Drachenrucken Mountains. He is accompanied by Sir Tristan, who releases Meira’s hand to make the introduction.

Travels and Reputation

Sir Gawain explains that Sir Lancelot has traveled throughout Edel as a knight errant since his father was killed. Among the adventures associated with him are rescuing Sir Tristan from a witch in the Black Western Wood and killing the Fire Hoarder in Dragan Fells. Galahad recognizes him for the latter feat, while Sir Lancelot answers that Galahad’s own exploits among the dwarves of Silbernreich and the dragons of Gormland outshine his reputation. Their exchange establishes mutual recognition between two knights celebrated for different adventures.

Companions and Courtly Connections

Sir Tristan is Sir Lancelot’s riding companion, bound to him by the earlier rescue. Sir Lancelot met Prince James and Sir Gawain several years before the events in Mhuirlan, in the Eisenzahn Mountains, and took a liking to them. By the time of his introduction, he has stayed in Mhuirlan for several months. Sir Gawain believes he plans to travel south to Albain, to Camelot, and take Sir Tristan with him; Gawain also considers joining them, depending on whether Prince James will allow it. The prospect of a sword waiting to be drawn from a stone, and of kingship for whoever draws it, gives that proposed journey a larger political allure.

Appearance in Mhuirlan

During a tour of the palace, Sir Lancelot points out the corner tower and asks whether its stairs are passable. Prince James says they are safe and have a good view from the top, then directs Sir Lancelot to go with Sir Tristan and Sir Gawain while he shows Galahad something else. Sir Lancelot immediately heads for the tower, with Sir Gawain calling after him about the age of the battlements. The brief episode presents him as an active companion, ready to explore, rather than a knight defined only by the impressive deeds recounted by others.
