Isabel

Venom

Isabel is Sammy’s mother and Constance’s identical twin, and her brief appearance gives Elena a warm welcome as well as an unexpected ally against the royal family. Her resemblance to Constance is so complete that Elena initially mistakes one for the other; Isabel’s easy hospitality contrasts with her later, unmistakably cold judgment of Arianna Kinsley’s family and its treatment of Elena.

Identity and Introduction

Elena first encounters Isabel in a moment of mistaken identity. Sammy explains that Constance and Isabel are twins, and Isabel is Sammy’s mother; the two women look identical, share a British accent, and even have a similar giggle. Elena has difficulty telling them apart, making the introduction a small but telling disruption in her understanding of who is in the room.

The confusion gives way to a personal welcome. Isabel smiles at Elena and tells her that, although the home is not the Johnsons’, it is home. Elena replies that she already feels at home. The exchange presents Isabel through practical kindness: she recognizes Elena as someone who needs to be made welcome, rather than leaving the awkward introduction to define their meeting.

Attitude Toward Royalty and Arianna

Isabel’s warmth does not extend to the royal family. After Sammy worries that talking back to royalty might bring punishment, Isabel responds coldly that they are not that royal and adds that she has never liked Arianna Kinsley’s family much. Her answer rejects the intimidation Sammy fears and makes her position plain, rather than treating rank as a reason to defer.

Her criticism has a specific personal context: Isabel dislikes that Arianna has pushed her wedding arrangement with Lucian in Elena’s face. Elena takes comfort in discovering another adult who is on her side, and notes that Lucille also dislikes the family. Isabel’s brief intervention thus joins private sympathy to open opposition to the way Arianna’s status and marriage plans are being used against Elena.

Narrative Role

Isabel enters the story through domestic recognition: she is introduced as Sammy’s mother, welcomed into the scene by the family resemblance that initially confuses Elena, and establishes the house as a place Elena can feel at home. The scene then gives that welcome a wider significance. Isabel does not merely offer sheltering warmth; when the conversation turns to royal power and Arianna’s conduct, she challenges the assumption that the family’s status deserves unquestioned respect. Her support helps Elena see that resistance to Arianna is shared by adults around her.
