A book has closed
Gunsoul“A book has closed” is Kaguya’s image for an ending that does not settle what comes next. Spoken after Yuan gains the ability to choose which dead people return as Gunsouls, it acknowledges the close of a familiar story while insisting that the future remains unwritten.
Context and Use
Revolver asks whether a Gunsoul who kills Yuan could take his power, inherit the mantle, and restart the curse. Kaguya replies with a shrug: “A book has closed, and the next tale has yet to be written. All of us are walking into unexplored territory.” Her words answer neither the mechanics of succession nor the possibility of renewed violence. Instead, they frame those possibilities as unknown.
Meaning and Open Ending
The closed book signifies that the previous cycle has reached an end; the unwritten tale prevents that ending from becoming a guarantee about the future. The phrase therefore holds closure and uncertainty together. Its scope is deliberately limited: Kaguya does not promise that the curse can never return, only that the characters are entering territory they have not explored. Revolver remains unconvinced, calling the outcome too good to be true, so the exchange preserves his doubt alongside Kaguya’s acceptance of uncertainty.
