Bullet Train Strike

Gunsoul

Bullet Train Strike is the counterattack that turns Manhattan’s apparent victory into defeat: Yuan makes the Cube of Natho a baited target, and Orient strikes Manhattan with the force of a train moving along a supernatural track. The collision shatters Manhattan’s core, fulfills Arc’s plan, and leaves the cube intact. The action hinges not on overpowering Manhattan directly, but on exploiting his uncertainty, his injuries, and the speed of the approaching train.

The Tracks and the Opening

The strike begins with Yuan trapped in the ravaged streets of Battletown. Manhattan stands over him, radiation pouring from his damaged core in waves of heat, and prepares to stomp on his skull. With Manhattan close to finishing him, Yuan notices phantom tracks spread across the ruined streets. Ghostly rails and crossties form a route through tiny walkways enclosed within the giant Barrier. An immense, blinding light advances along it, carried by a rush of qi on the artificial leyline connecting the city to its landmarks.

The approaching force changes the shape of the confrontation. Manhattan sees the surge and wonders whether it is a desperate trick; Yuan recognizes an opportunity, but has no certainty about what the tracks will do. The passage presents the route as more than scenery: the rails, leyline, and approaching train create the conditions for a blow that neither Yuan nor Manhattan can simply control. Its speed and scale make the built environment an active part of the attack.

Yuan’s Bluff

Yuan launches the Cube of Natho into the tracks’ path with a shockwave from his Recoil Fist. He frames the move as a threat to Manhattan’s god, but the apparent confidence conceals a gamble: Yuan does not know whether the oncoming force can destroy the sealed Nuke. Manhattan cannot know either. The cube becomes bait precisely because the two opponents face the same uncertainty, while Manhattan has more to lose if it is destroyed.

The bluff works by making Manhattan imagine that the approaching train is part of a deliberate plan to annihilate the Nuke. He considers whether Arc’s sacrifice was intended to set up this moment, and whether her death was a necessary part of a final victory. That possibility unsettles him. Rather than risk losing the cube, he teleports beside it and catches it in midair. His choice is understandable: he is trying to secure his prize. It is also the decision that places him directly in the train’s path.

Manhattan’s timing is compromised by the cracked core, the wounds tearing through his body, and the qi he has already expended in battle. Yuan’s timing matters as well: the shockwave sends the cube into the route just as Manhattan decides to retrieve it. The train’s speed completes the trap. Manhattan reaches the cube, but cannot escape before the impact.

The Collision

Orient rams into Manhattan in a catastrophic crash. Yuan catches only a glimpse before light and nuclear smoke swallow him. In that flash, he sees Orient strike both Manhattan and the cube, with sutras shining through her iron frame. The formulas are the same ones Holster once used to purify the corrupted Rad-Hag. Manhattan’s cracked core breaks apart in the impact, a destruction likened to a vessel shattering and releasing what it held; green particles and blinding light engulf Yuan.

The collision changes the value of the scene in an instant: the threatened destruction of the Nuke gives way to Manhattan’s destruction. Yet the blow is not presented as an effortless victory. Yuan’s feint only creates the opening; Manhattan’s fear of losing the cube draws him into the tracks, while his damaged core and depleted qi keep him from getting clear. Orient supplies the decisive physical force, and the sutras on her frame connect the impact to the earlier work of purification.

Outcome and Aftermath

When Yuan regains awareness, Bucket is carrying the Cube of Natho. The cube’s baleful eyes still gleam, confirming that it survived the crash. Orient tells Yuan that Manhattan is gone and that Arc’s plan worked. Yuan responds with relief shadowed by doubt, asking whether Orient is certain. She confirms that she felt Manhattan’s core shatter against her locomotive.

Orient also explains why the impact did not destroy her. The nuclear blast would have killed her without the immense qi infusing her steel from a leyline. The alterations to the History Road circuit had just managed to purify the resulting radiation before it could contaminate the entire region. The victory therefore depends on two linked safeguards: the power sustaining Orient through the blast and the circuit that contains its fallout. The cube remains intact, Manhattan is destroyed, and the threat of regional radiation is checked—but Yuan’s first concern after the flash is whether Mel and Hardy survived, a question left unresolved in this moment.
