Holster's Revolver Restoration

Gunsoul

Holster's Revolver Restoration is both a practical act of repair and a gift that reconnects Yuan to the first weapon that marked his entry into the cultivator world. Holster restores the revolver Yuan destroyed fighting the Rad-Hag, then uses feng shui and sutras to give its six chambers different effects on his qi. The finished weapon carries a personal history and a new combat function: five chambers alter the qi in their bullets, while the sixth preserves its natural form.

Circumstances and Presentation

Yuan is testing the Saint Heckler when the wagon door opens and Holster steps into the room. She is smiling brightly, carrying a paper sheet in one hand and a revolver in the other; the dead centidead nearby does not distract her from the purpose of her visit. She offers the weapon to Yuan, who initially asks whether it is for him. Orient, watching the exchange, recognizes that Holster has completed the work and responds with the pride of someone who has seen her effort reach its result.

The gun looks ordinary at first glance. Its barrel and cylinder bear carved sutra scripts, but Yuan recognizes it through the tiny scratches along its surface. That familiar wear makes the restoration more than a newly made replacement: it is the same revolver he lost when it was blown up in his battle with the Rad-Hag. Holster confirms the connection with a proud nod. Orient explains that this is the gift she had mentioned, and that Holster used feng shui and sutras to restore the revolver to its previous condition.

The Gun's Earlier Meaning

The revolver had already carried a history important to Yuan before Holster returned it to him. Revolver gave it to him after Yuan rose from the ditch where Slash had left him, making it the first firearm Yuan received as a Gunsoul. Yuan regarded it as a marker of his first step into the world of cultivators. Its destruction in the fight with the Rad-Hag therefore removed not just a useful weapon but an object bound to the beginning of his changed life.

That significance helps explain Yuan's awkward response to the gift. He had faced cultivators in battle without fear, yet kindness left him stammering; he admitted that he did not know what to say beyond thanking Holster. She beamed at his reaction, while Orient was amused by his embarrassment. Yuan answered with a very gentle pat on Holster's head. The small gesture contrasts with the violence surrounding the weapon's history: the revolver had been given after an attempted killing, destroyed in combat, and now returned through Holster's patient work.

Sutras and the Six Chambers

Yuan studies the inscriptions and channels qi through the restored gun. Ordinarily, his power spreads evenly across the weapon. This time, the sutras divide its flow among the six chambers, and Yuan senses his qi changing the bullets loaded in five of them. The first takes on the texture of thick, festering bark; the second becomes hot with the frenzy of wildfire; the third feels like strong, ancient stone; the fourth becomes sorrowful metal; and the fifth turns moist and cold like fearful ice. The sixth chamber remains different: its bullet retains Yuan's natural, formless qi.

When Yuan stops channeling his power, the altered bullets return to normal. The effect is therefore tied to his qi moving through the inscribed revolver rather than a permanent transformation of the ammunition. Yuan asks whether the five changes represent the five elements. His interpretation is suggested by the sequence of distinct material qualities, while the unchanged sixth chamber preserves his ordinary form of qi. He recognizes the modification as impressive and expects it to prove useful, though the scene does not yet establish how he will deploy each chamber in battle.

Consequences and Significance

The restoration joins Holster's craft to Yuan's combat abilities. The weapon does not merely fire bullets; its inscriptions mediate the qi he supplies, splitting it into several forms that can be accessed through different chambers. The contrast between five altered bullets and one unchanged bullet makes the revolver a tool for varying his attacks without erasing the form his power naturally takes.

The exchange also shows Holster contributing through work that reflects her knowledge of feng shui and sutras. Her condition as a human pillar has restricted her ability to strengthen her body with qi, leaving her core to stockpile energy rather than circulate it effectively. Yet that bodily limitation does not prevent her from making something valuable for Yuan. Her restoration answers the destruction of a meaningful possession with skilled, personal care—and returns to him a familiar weapon changed in a way that can help him face what lies ahead.
