Anne's Broken Engagement
Anne Elliot, at nineteen, fell deeply in love with Captain Frederick Wentworth, a young naval officer with no fortune. However, persuaded by Lady Russell, who considered the match imprudent, Anne broke off the engagement. Wentworth left, feeling ill-used, and Anne has regretted her decision ever since.
