Lilburn W. Boggs assassination attempt

The Lilburn W. Boggs assassination attempt took place in Independence in 1842, when a lone attacker, presumed to be a Mormon, shot Boggs and nearly killed him. Set against the recent arrival of Solomon Young and his small family, the episode underscores the violence that unsettled the Blue River country.
