Cam abandons Lilith and their planned marriage

Unforgiven

Cam’s abandonment of Lilith and their planned marriage was an act of concealment as much as separation. In a later confession, he admits that fear of telling her what he was led him to dismiss her wish for a temple wedding, shift blame onto her, and run away; his account turns the breakup into the central failure he must confront in seeking a second chance.

Causes and Choice

Cam says that he wanted to marry Lilith too, but could not marry in the temple as she wished. He later identifies what lay behind that refusal: the temple mattered to her, but he dismissed her wish so he would not have to tell her what he was. The obstacle, by his own account, was not that he did not want the marriage. It was his fear of disclosure.

Abandonment and Responsibility

Cam acknowledges that he made the rupture worse by making it seem like Lilith’s fault. He names himself as the one who backed out of their marriage, then explains that he believed she could never forgive him and ran away. His confession replaces the blame he had placed on her with an explicit admission that the decision and the flight were his.

Confession and Aftermath

By the time Cam explains his choice, he says he has found a second chance and returned to redeem himself. The time they have spent together has shown him, he says, that his love for Lilith is greater than his fear. His tearful admission comes while Lilith’s expression remains strained with hurt; after he closes his eyes, she shrieks. The scene places his attempt at accountability beside the pain that the original abandonment has not erased.
