Troy
UnforgivenTroy is both the site of the Fallen angels’ original Fall and the setting for Lucinda and Daniel’s decisive choice to leave its divided history behind. There, they refuse to side with either Heaven or Hell, give up immortality, and choose one mortal lifetime together; Cam later flies away from Troy as their freedom sharpens his longing for a different life.
The Site of the Original Fall
Troy is described as the place where the Fallen angels first fell. Its significance is therefore not merely geographic: it holds the history of their shared rupture and becomes the setting for a choice that rejects the old opposition between Heaven and Hell. The account identifies it as the destination to which the angels fly after the curse binding Lucinda and Daniel has been broken.
Lucinda and Daniel’s Choice
At Troy, Lucinda and Daniel again refuse to take either side in the conflict between Heaven and Hell. Rather than preserve their immortality, they choose each other and accept a single mortal lifetime together. The decision gives Troy a contrasting role in the story: a place associated with the angels’ Fall becomes the scene of a freely chosen life beyond the old allegiance and the lovers’ repeated cursed fate.
Cam’s Departure
Cam has just flown in from Troy when he arrives at Sword & Cross Reform School, where the news that Lucinda and Daniel are free weighs on him. Their choice makes him jealous and stirs a longing he has not dared to put into words. Later, after a white fleck in his wing recalls the change from white to gold, he recognizes that their story has given him a fresh start, though only one regret remains. He leaves the chapel and heads toward the darkness that has awaited him since he flew away from Lilith’s love. Troy thus stands at the threshold of the lovers’ new mortal life and Cam’s unresolved departure.
