Foiled Attack on Tabini, Ilisidi, and Tatiseigi
PeacemakerThe Foiled Attack on Tabini, Ilisidi, and Tatiseigi was a Shadow Guild attempt against three powerful figures at a moment when Tabini’s return had shifted the political balance. Its failure left damage to Lord Tatiseigi’s grounds and a bedroom, but did not stop the wider collapse of Murini’s rule.
Political Background
During Murini’s two years in power, he and his supporters had turned public opinion against themselves. Across the continent, ordinary citizens were forming small groups and considering how they might remove him. The political climate changed sharply when Tabini appeared alive beside Ilisidi and his son, reporting success in the heavens; he received widespread public support.
The Attack
In the rising tide of support for Tabini, the Shadow Guild made an attempt on Tabini, Ilisidi, and Lord Tatiseigi. The attack was stopped. Its failure spared the three targets, but not Lord Tatiseigi’s property: his grounds sustained damage, including damage to a bedroom. The account gives no further operational details about the attempt.
Collapse and Aftermath
The failed attack coincided with the broader breakdown of Murini’s government. As events began to fall apart, Murini and his closest staff fled toward the Marid, and his government disintegrated. The attempt thus forms part of a political reversal: the returning ruler whom the Shadow Guild tried to strike had broad public backing, while Murini’s position was collapsing.
In the year after Tabini’s return, Tabini and Ilisidi systematically investigated what remained of the crisis, sometimes forgiving those involved, sometimes warning them, and pursuing its leaders. Murini was among the first they went after. The attack’s significance therefore extends beyond the damage at Lord Tatiseigi’s residence: its failure belongs to the unraveling of Murini’s regime and the subsequent effort to hold its leaders accountable.
